Our History

Junction Australia has been dynamically responding to unmet need in the South Australian community for more than 36 years.

Junction Australia began its life as the Teenage Accommodation Service under the auspices of the Noarlunga Family Services Board and was incorporated on 1 August 1979.  This was an initiative of members of the Noarlunga community who saw a growing homelessness problem amongst young people in the region.

After many and varied changes to both organisational structure and the provision of services, in 2005 the organisation became known as Southern Junction Community Services (SJCS).  This coincided with the appointment of Graham Brown as Chief Executive Officer.  His brief was to assist the organisation to build upon its traditional strengths in delivery of youth services and become a more comprehensive community service organisation.

In 2013, to reflect an increasing geographic footprint and a readiness to take its services across the state, SJCS became Junction Australia.  The new name reflected not only the heritage of the organisation but a vision to be recognised nationally by 2020.

Later in 2013, Junction Australia’s housing division Junction Housing merged with The Women’s Housing Association Inc to create Junction and Women’s Housing Ltd.  In July 2014,  Junction and Women’s Housing Ltd achieved Tier 1 Registration in the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH). As Junction Austraila's registered community housing provider, Junction and Women's Housing Ltd applies commercial principles to a social mission focused on the provision of affordable housing for lower income South Australians.

Today, Junction Australia offers more than 30 services in 33 local government areas across the state.  It is a leading provider of integrated affordable housing and community services and has over 1,700 homes and more than $370 million of assets under management.  Its 200 staff serve more than 6500 Australians every year.
